Violet Thorn - The user wraps themselves around an enemy and squeezes, creating a flower-like pattern of spikes that protrude outward. This technique may risk damage to the user.
-THE ORIGINAL-
Gamecrazed was another one of the rare characters from the original TvTome Adventures that I thought was decently well-written for my storytelling ability at the time. He was the bitter, grumpy, sarcastic one of the team, always making snide comments, but keeping a fairly positive attitude and backing up the others when fighting against the hackers. There was also a character introduced later named “Gamecrasher”, which was GC’s eager kid brother. The two of them had a fun little dynamic together and cultivated into some “real life drama” involving their parents separating and them having to move apart, but keeping in touch through the game. Gamecrazed also ended up being put in the position of an antagonist, but ultimately ended up saving the day. GC turned out to be a very popular character with fans of the original.
-THE NEW-
With that in mind, changing GC in the way I did for TOME was actually a lot of pressure. In very early stages I envisioned him being the same as he was before (complete with Gamecrasher, who never got a redesign for the new series), but as I continued developing the dynamic of the main characters, I decided it would be better to make a few changes to GC. His design remained intact, with my only addition being the little control pad in place of a belly-button. I stripped GC of his sarcasm and attitude and gave it to Kirb, mainly because Kirb and Alpha’s personalities were running a bit too close to each other. I amped up Alpha’s shyness, gave Kirb and attitude and then focused on how Gamecrazed should be. I went with the “strong silent type” for GC as it proved to be better for the group dynamic. I had run into problems with TTA in that many of the main characters’ personalities were way too similar. Granted, this can be the case with groups of friends that all think like-minded, but it’s not interesting from a writing or entertainment perspective. My thought process for when GC talks in TOME is only when he is asked to respond (to show that he’s trying to be as polite as possible) or speaks up of his own accord when it’s of any importance. I think at first, people were either bored with him, or just didn’t get exactly where he was coming from. Episode 02 helped shed some light on how good of an individual he is, then by the time Episode 04 came out, it seemed like everyone “gets” him now. If there’s one thing I regret, it’s that I think I’ve made him come off as being invincible. He isn’t, but I can see where people get that impression; I portray him more as just being very intelligent and strategic in every move he makes, but even he can’t overcome someone that’s just flat-out stronger than he is. I hope he’ll continue to grow on people.
Hey Kirb. In Ep.1 they talk about getting owned by the hackers multiple times. Kind of kills the invincible theory, doesn’t it?
